Cult Spy Icon: Ianto Jones
From Ben Rawson-Jones digitalspy.co.uk: Beware the seemingly dull, quiet types. They can often turn out to be the real dark horse amongst their more outgoing counterparts. This is certainly the case with Torchwood’s dependable odd job man Ianto Jones, who turned from a piece of office furniture into a very complex figure indeed. He “cleans up s**t - no questions asked”, but this compelling character is also capable of creating plenty of mess himself.

Synchronicity seems to figure largely in this whole adventure of moving to the Northern Cariboo. There were improvements to the house we wanted to generate; we were told tradespeople would be difficult to come by. Qualicum Beach is an area where building and renovations go on constantly, with very little letup. We wanted the bedroom, still painted the same colour it was when we moved in, to be renewed with more serene paint. The en suite bathroom required fresh paint, as well. We wanted new ki

Crafting a convincing conclusion
No writer of a story would start to put down words until he knew exactly how his story was to end. He must plan to bring about a certain conclusion. The hero and heroine must be united in marriage. The scheming villain must be brought to justice. Or if he scorn the usual ending of the “lived happily ever after” kind of fiction, he can plan to kill his hero and heroine, or both; or he can decide for once that his story shall be more like real life than is usually the case, and have wickedness t

Procrastinating on a rainy day
I’m sitting here in front of my computer, not thinking about what I need to do, but looking out the window to my right. It’s heavily overcast and raining, with a lot of thunder. It’s a Sunday afternoon, after church and after lunch - perfect for taking a nap. I’ll do that eventually. Instead, I logged on to the computer to finish an Amazon order that I promised Doc, and to type up and email out our Sunday school class prayer and praise list (I do this each week for the class). I have finished

Greetings from Arran
Well, we made it... just. It's been one of the hardest weeks of our lives and I never, ever want to go through it again. Having an 18-month old makes everything so much harder. Plus we had too much stuff. And all the lost weekends when people would invite us round during the only real packing time we had meant that, even after staying up the whole night before leaving, we still couldn't do it. Lorraine left with the kids on Tuesday morning at 6.15. It should have been 6.00 and, thanks to the To

CR is quietly chuffed to announce that two of our projects have been chosen for the Design Museum’s new Designs of the Year exhibition “showcasing the best work in architecture and design in the last 12 months”. generally i look forward to summer because it means warm weather, vacations and lazy days in the sun. but i have a whole new reason to look forward to this summer - the new charles & ray eames stamps! usps is releasing a set of 16 stamps in honor of the duo for "heir groundbreaking contributions to architecture, furniture design, manufacturing and photographic arts." i think i may need to frame a set - afterall, it's the cheapest i'll ever have to pay for a set of eames chairs in my house

My first lube
I can’t sleep. I just can’t fall back to sleep for the 3rd time tonight waiting to hear ChicaPoo cough pitifully and sounding like someone stuffed a whistle and socks down her throat. I lay there wanting to read but not wanting to wake D as he has a job interview this morning. sigh. I toss and turn. My mind starts to relax and I wander around aimlessly thoughts popping into my head without much segue. Chica’s preschool. I hate they want to give lollipops for being quiet in the hall. Can’t th

Taiwanese Food @ Fong Lye, The Gardens, Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur
Adorable tea cup I have been a fan of Fong Lye's food at their Desa Sri Hartamas outlet and even blogged about it twice. Recently, they have opened a new outlet at The Gardens. Looking modern with white furniture and flower motifs in purple, it is a good place to relax after some shopping. 3 Cup Chicken (RM18.80++) Unlike the other outlets, which serve cooked dishes with rice or porridge, this outlet features more snacks and set meals. Every set meal ordered is served with a variety of it

Learning to Decompress
I was determined to enjoy my weekend with the boys this weekend and canceled any appointments that I had this weekend. Nick, Alex, David, and I had a good time this weekend which means that laundry didn't get done and the house is a mess, but the end result was a fun weekend. Even if the house is a mess I wouldn't change a thing about this weekend. On Saturday we went to The Choo Choo Restaurant which is thankfully close by. The restaurant has a S-gauge electric train deliver your order to

…Richard Sajas does embroider-graffiti?
With a bit of creative embroidery, Richard Saja turns ordinary Toile de Jouy print into something extraordinary. Though TdJ print isn’t usually my style, I could definitely make a compromise for an embroider-graffitied piece like this. It’s subtle yet humorous, and you could keep it with other pieces of fancy furniture knowing that it’s got a surprise waiting for anyone that is willing to get close.
